Ayirathil Oruvan - selvaraghavan

With great expectations watched the movie, and truly they lived the hype and expectations. The movie is beyond the normal gangster, love story - typical to the stagnated tamil movie industry. Fantasies and ancient myth are the new genres that have dawned with the arrival of ayirathikl oruvan.

The movie starts with the fall of cholas, soon after an archeologist vanishes into thin air in a quest to find the last chola prince's civilization who was forced to exile. A secret team to throw some light on the vanished archeologist and the lost civilization is formed by the government. Reema sen as Anitha leads the team. Andrea joins the team in a quest to find her father who has vanished. A group of burly men joins the team as helpers lead by karthik.

All the lead characters have delivered with punch except for andrea whose scope is limited. The first half is a treat to one's eyes. With humor and subtle seriousness which reaches a new height towards the interval, a surprise song sequence with a remix of MGR tune leaves the audience struck to the edge of the seat.

The second half opens the door of the fantasy world which the tamil audience have never even thought about. Selva's imagination has been brought live on screen with the help of Ramji who has put in all his efforts. Can there exists such stories? U keep staring at the screen as the story unfolds. GV prakash music is an added plus for the movie. This is one kind of a movie that has touched the ancient history of cholas and pandavas and has built its own imagination on its top. Sure the story has a lot of holes, but they can all be tolerated for proving such stories can be shot even in tamil industry.

More blood and gore comes to screen, which keeps u horrified....but at the same time reminds you where we are, what is the civilazation that we left behind, what is the cultural values that we have forgotten......

I am sure there will be many critics who will be skeptical about the movie....Had this been shot in the hollywood, this would have been a world class movie and would have been recommended for oscars.

This is one hell of a try from selvaraghavan, and surely he is "ayirathil oruvan". Not many will be willing to experiment when u are on a peek in the career....
