For a long time now, i have been wondering how common, the words friends and friendship has become. When i look at people who have been here for 40+years, their world is largely engulfed with their relatives, with their children...Building on a culture which has a great heritage, which has defined every relationship with a significant and well poised role, i rarely find people(40+ age) still in touch with their age old friends...... Of late, the theme of friends and friendship has taken the center stage in today's life...be it a movie, be it a new venture, be it a crime scene, be it a pop album....name anything and u will definitely have references for friends and friendship...
Why? Why we don't find our mom and dad hanging out with friends? inviting friends on occasions??? Does that mean they never had any friends? No absolutely not. everyone will agree with me, they had better friends, whose relations were better than what tom and dick have, who had great understanding, who were matured enough to understand the plight of other....but yet, we don't know them.....
" A best friend is one whose address remains when the
addresses are migrated from one address book to another"
Recently i came across the above one....They never had the sort of communication that we have today. At our disposal, we have emails, mobiles, social networking etc...But all they had was the government telephone system....A telephone in every twentieth home in a neighbourhood, that went blank for 20 days of the month....even a call across two districts were a TRUNK call!!!!!If at all they met accidentally, they failed to realise the other in front of them!!!! why? yup, either or both would have become bald, teethes completely gone, and few remaining hair in silver:):):)...
Unlike today, exchanges of photographs were rare....or they were a dream!!!! Today every family owns a digi cam...and photos are shared like anything over the web...but those were the times when even taking a photo was a great achievement and a poor man's dream!!!
When we sit and here stories about their friendship, their deeds, u can always find a gentle smile on their faces...a smile which can only be experienced.....
Today we have all sorts to communicate with our pals...yet some still restrain themselves from lending their hand across coz for their own personal reasons....the majority jell well...share their day to day activities....maybe we are lucky....
But few of us realise that our parents have crossed that age, have had many friends...we never listen to them, we just hold on to our friends, i mean no offence meant....how many of us ever bothered to treat our parents as friends? We have shared all our dreams, passions, likes, dislikes days and nights with Friends.....but how much of that we have shared with our parents? how many have patiently listened to their endless stories? we have listened to our friends' dream, passion, incomprehensible tales....have exchanged likes and dislikes, have we ever asked our parents for their likes and dislikes? have we ever sat next to them and taught them patiently the art of modern technology? have we ever planned to take them out on a dinner that had proved surprise and soothing for us? did any teaching session go without raising our voice????
they have come a long way sacrificing everything for us and yet we tend to ignore them during the important times of our life......they have done everything to spend there life with u, u being at the top of the world...not to see u from a distant, not to repent why they lifted u to such heights, not to yearn to be near you......don't dessert them when they really need you, after all they just like to see you at the top of the world, share the happiness and shoulder the gloomy moments...lets remember, they taught us everything....we ought not to get irritated coz they dont understand what we are trying to express....
A small thing for us would mean a lot to them....don't ignore them...they may be hesitant, impatient, rude, stubborn....but they are the ones who moulded our foundations....if not for them, we are not what we are today.....

We normally won't recognize someone when they are with us. Let this not happen with our parents. :-)
