1947, august 15th, the world was told, INDIA gained her independence on this day. If my knowledge of history is not wrong, till the late 60's, the concept of zamindari system existed and played havoc on the lives of many. Lets go back to history and check what its all about?
In the early mughalian period, zamindari system was established. The so called zamindar or the landlord, will collect the taxes from the people, mostly peasants and hand it over to the government. When the east Indian company set their foot on the Indian soil, they had no other choice, but to employ the same system on a large scale. unlike the mughals era, the zamindars were treated as king by the Brits and were portrayed as hooligans b4 the people.
After India gained her much sought independence, these zamindars took the tide in their stride, promised people and registered most of the lands in their names. People were beaten up, treated as slaves...and there is a large collection of such history.
Ok. Why am i suddenly into history? I have heard people telling me, history will repeat itself in one form or the other. so has it repeated? what has happened now?
Civilization has leaped forward by thousands steps, irony is that we people felt culture to be a barrier for a better civilization and have left many values far behind. still a sect of the society calls for nourishment and practice of cultural values. With better civilization, mortals have found many ways to lead a better life. New occupations have come into play, majority of which has revolutionised the way a kid thinks about his career.
With the advent of computers, all the occupation seems to have faded away and people in the business of computers are thought to be of high creed. Well it was how things were when people forayed into software and hardware business. People forgot the basic requirements for a good society....mechanical engineers, civil engineers, chemical engineers etc....teachers, astronomers...the people with such qualifications are a rare breed these days....
well that is not what i had in mind when i started writing this...The point i am trying to argue about is the way today's giant IT companies have grown. The way people are treated, the way things are administrated. In the zamindari system, zamindar was the head, and we all know, the PM is the visible head to all the developers, testers under him. For that matter any modern corporate will do....
U ask for an off for one day, u are humiliated. People have to work days together irrespective of day and night, have to toil as hard as possible, just to get one happy nod from the so called boss :)...yup the peasants had to toil all round the year, to keep his family going if not happy.
If any peasant nodded his head against the zamindar, he was to be treated miserably and finally the family will end up starving for the year. In the same way, u nod your head and say no, from then on everything will turn against u, and at the time of appraisal, everyone knows what will happen.....
Zamindari system was a barbaric act. Now, with what should i compare these corporates and their bloody cultures? Zamindars were illiterate and were narrow minded. These corporates are highly educated (or rather ai-chi-keta) and still they are happy to behave as lunatics...
With the future in mind, will things get worse????? Will there be a better tomo for a so called civilized mortals? Will the kids enjoy a world filled with great civilization promising better jobs and careers as was promised to us????
